Bangladesh avoid bottom place of WTC for first time

Desk news:

Having finished ninth in the first two Test Championship cycles in 2019-21 and 2021-23, the Tigers finally avoided embarrassment in the ongoing WTC cycle.

Bangladesh had a stellar year in the long format in 2024, beating Pakistan in a historic 2-0 away series and a 1-1 draw away to West Indies.

In total, the Tigers secured four wins and suffered eight losses in 12 Tests, with no more matches left in this cycle.

Meanwhile, Pakistan were docked five points due to slow over rate in the second Test against South Africa, which played a big part in their elevation and built a chance to finish on top of them.

Bangladesh are currently in seventh place of the nine-team table with 31.25 percentage points, while Pakistan are eighth with 24.31 percentage points and West Indies ninth with 24.24 percentage points.

Pakistan and the West Indies both have two remaining Tests in this cycle, facing off against one another, starting in Pakistan later this month.

Regardless of the series outcome—whether it ends in a draw or victory. Bangladesh will not be able to drop below eighth place.
