Fiction writer and essayist Faizul Islam passed away while undergoing treatment at Labaid Hospital in Dhaka on Tuesday. He was 61.

Fiction writer Afsana Begum told New Age that Faizul Islam was suffering from cancer.

‘As his condition deteriorated he was shifted from Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Medical University to Labaid on January 13,’ she added.

Born at Siddeshwari in Dhaka on November 24 in 1963, Faizul Islam, a voice to reckon with in the post-Elias literary scene, started writing fiction way back in 1989. Long form story is his forte.

Since 1990, his fictions have been published in the country’s numerous literary magazines.

His collections of stories have been published under the headers Nakshatrer Ghora, Khowaj Khijirer Sinduk, Ayna, Nilkhete Keno Jai, Ghumtrishna, Jamin and Bakhtiar Khaner Cycle, and a novel Boy’s School Band.
