foiled at Uttara

Desk news: The programmes of Jatiya Basanta Utsab 1431 were foiled on Friday in the capital’s Uttara area as local youths, branding the organisers as the collaborators of the fascist Awami League, opposed the celebration of the first day of the spring there.

The Jatiya Basanta Utsab Udjapan Parishad, however, organised their scheduled events at Bakultala at the fine arts faculty of Dhaka University and the Bahadur Shah Park in the capital to celebrate the day. Manzar Chowdhury Sweet, the general secretary of the Udjapan Parishad, said that they applied for the venue and received necessary permissions from the Dhaka North City Corporation and the Dhaka Metropolitan Police but could not organise the event at Uttara due to protests from local people.

‘Till the last hour we tried to organise the event but few local people prevented them from taking any preparations there,’ he said. Emon Rahman Farhad, a coordinator of Uttara Youth Welfare Society, said that they named the open stage at Uttara’s section 3 as Mir Mugdho Mancha after the August 5, 2024 mass uprising but the Jatiya Basanta Utsab Udjapan Parishad mentioned the name of the stage as ‘open stage’.

‘The Parishad’s local organisers were involved in the fascist Awami League regime as collaborators, and, that is why, they did not mention the name of Mir Mugdho Mancha in their programme schedule,’ Emon said.

He said that the organiser who came to the place for preparations mentioned that it would be organised by Geetanjali, an organisation known as the fascist regime’s collaborator. The central programme of the parishad at Bakultala began with a group instrumental recital by Bengal Parampara.

A classical music performance by vocal artiste Susmita Debnath was held while Isra Fuljhuri Khan played Sarod and Apan Biswash played Tabla with her. The dance troupe Turongomi performed Taranay Basanta, which was directed by Puja Sengupta at the event.

Bhaswar Bandyopadhyay, Maskur A Sattar Kollol, and Naila Tarannum Chowdhury Kakoli recited poems while artistes of Chayanat, Folk Bangla Institute, Rabi Rasmi and Satyen Sen Shilpi Gosthi sang songs.
